Northrop Grumman has a well-established presence in France through its subsidiary company, SOLYSTIC which is a major player in the postal sorting market. Based in Bagneux, close to the centre of Paris and at Bourg-les-Valence near Lyons, SOLYSTIC has built its reputation as an industry leader in the field of mail sorting machines and character recognition technology. Northrop Grumman also provides a variety of capabilities to the French armed forces and has had a long and collaborative partnership with the French Navy extending back to 1997.


Major Programmes Include:

E-2C Hawkeye – Upgrade of the French Navy’s E-2C Hawkeye fleet with the latest Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system. The French Navy has been operating the E-2C Hawkeye since 2000 and France is the only country other than the US to operate its E-2 Hawkeyes from an aircraft carrier.

Alphasat Communications Satellite – The Alphasat spacecraft uses a deployable reflector and boom system provided by Northrop Grumman. Alphasat is one of the largest telecommunications satellites in the world and will provide commercial broadband telecommunications services to Europe, Africa and parts of Asia. 

nEUROn Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) demonstrator – The nEUROn experimental UCAV demonstrator being developed with international cooperation and led by France is fitted with fibre-optic, gyrocompass LCR-100 AHRS attitude and heading reference systems provided by Northrop Grumman LITEF.
