A part of our total systems capability, Northrop Grumman delivers reliable, robust and high-performance ground systems that ensure continual contact with satellites for telemetry and command in both normal and contingency conditions.

As a satellite operator, Northrop Grumman understands the importance of reliable and continuous service. Our ground systems are developed using redundant, program-proven hardware to insure stability and uninterrupted full operation. The EPOCH and OASIS commercial software packages used in our ground systems have been proven on multiple satellite missions and feature very user-friendly interfaces.

Customer Support

Our GEO team provides a comprehensive training program in satellite analysis and operations. This program, conducted for engineers and controllers, includes:

  • Training seminars
  • Hands-on training using the satellite simulator
  • Mission rehearsals
  • On-the-job training

Technical support continues for the life of the system, with anomaly resolution assistance that can be initiated with a single phone call. Periodic customer meetings are held to improve operations and share lessons learned.

Mission Control Complex

Northrop Grumman’s state-of-the-art Mission Control Complex (MCC) is located in Dulles, Virginia. The $3.3 million MCC consists of:

  • Three Mission Operations Centers
  • Dynamic Spacecraft Simulator (DSS) Facility
  • Science Operations Center
  • Communications Room
  • Mission Viewing Room

Together with the company’s Satellite Manufacturing Facility (SMF), which accommodates development, production and testing of multiple satellites, the new MCC offers spacecraft operators a “one-stop shop” for the manufacture, launch, deployment and mission operations of new satellites.

The MCC is used to train client operations personnel, to conduct dress rehearsals of missions, to operate and test spacecraft, and to support Northrop Grumman space systems over the entire life of their mission.
