Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.
We are currently looking for an experienced Principal Designer Project Employee to join our Mechanical Engineering Design team within the Launch Vehicle Division at our Chandler, AZ facility.
The Principal Designer will create models and engineering drawings utilizing Siemens NX 11.0 managed with Teamcenter. Will also be responsible for checking drawing/design packages for proper content and to ensure compliance with applicable industry and military standards. Duties will include checking designs for fit, function, manufacturability, and economy of fabrication and be able to perform tolerance analysis. Responsibility will further include liaison with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Materials. Some vendor liaison will be required as well.
Prepare working plans, detailed drawings, and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of complex components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detailed sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes. Verify completed work, check dimensions, material and quantities to be used. May provide guidance and supervision to staff.
1. Discuss projects with supervisor and engineering to review functions of mechanical or electrical machines or equipment and make engineering computations, and make adjustments to drawings or specifications.
2. Illustrates and describe scale drawings of each component delineating contours and dimensions for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
3. Review schematics with appropriate personnel verifying completed work, checking dimensions, materials and quantities to be used.
4. Verify completed work checking dimensions, materials and qualities to be used.
5. As requested, may supervise and direct the activities of staff.
6. Perform related duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge of Word, Excel, Windows and CAD required.
Thorough knowledge of CAD drafting practices.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work quickly and accurately while under schedule pressure and exhibit a large degree of patience.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
