Hosted by the American Astronautical Society, American Meteorological Society and the International Association of Emergency Managers, Extreme Precipitation is a hangout presented by Northrop Grumman that is devoted to discussing the impacts and mitigation of heavy precipitation events to help create a Weather Ready Nation. You'll hear from some of the top voices in weather from government, media and academia as they discuss what it takes to serve communities dealing with all kinds of extreme precipitation: hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and winter storms.

David R. Novak
Dave Novak
David R. Novak, Ph.D., is the director of NOAA's Weather Prediction Center (WPC), based in College Park, Md. As director, Novak oversees the development, provision and enhancements to the National Weather Service's suite of national forecasts for heavy rainfall, snowfall, and hazardous weather up to seven days in advance. He is lead author on several peer-reviewed journal publications on operational weather topics, and has a particular passion for transition of scientific advances and new tools into forecasting operations. He has received numerous honors, including a NOAA Bronze Medal (2012).


Gwen Camp

Gwen Camp is the Director of Individual and Community Preparedness for the FEMA in the US Department of Homeland Security. This is her second Presidential Appointment, having served as FEMA's Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for three years. Gwen has held positions in the US Senate, the US House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She has a decade of experience running political and advocacy campaigns on the federal, state and local levels in Pennsylvania and in Washington, DC and run workshops throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America.


Dr. Marshall Shepherd
Dr. Marshall Shepherd
Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd is a leading international expert in the area of weather, climate, and related sciences. He is the Georgia Athletic Association Professor of Geography at the University of Georgia and Director of the UGA Atmospheric Sciences Program. Dr. Shepherd was the 2013 President of American Meteorological Society. He also is the host of The Weather Channel's "WxGeeks."


John Morales
John Morales
John Morales is the longest tenured TV weather anchor in Miami, and chief meteorologist at WTVJ NBC-6. He is also founder and president of ClimaData, a commercial weather firm providing specialized forecasts for government, industry and media. John - a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) - has also been a public servant, as a forecaster for the National Weather Service.


Mike Smith
Mike Smith
Mike Smith is a board certified consulting meteorologist and a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. He is the holder of 23 U.S. and foreign patents. Smith is also the author of Warnings: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather and When the Sirens Were Silent, the story of the Joplin tornado.

Dave Jones
As CEO, President, and Founder of StormCenter Communications, Inc., Dave Jones combines years of experience in meteorology, broadcasting, and remote sensing with a vision for the future in leading the way to transform the television weathercast into an Envirocast®. Dave has been described by NASA as an "Applications Futurist" with his ability to identify future earth science applications that can address national and local priorities. Dave is leading StormCenter Communications, Inc. to provide critical environmental information and visuals to the media, government agencies and decision-makers and the public.
