Trees to the Seas Project - A Green Success Story
The roadway called Imperial Highway is looking a little more regal now thanks to years of work and one final volunteer day on Saturday, March 8, 2008, when Northrop Grumman people joined in planting 120 trees along its curb.

| Northrop Grumman employees, friends and family joined the community in a green effort in El Segundo, Calif., on March 8 to complete a multi-year project called “Trees to the Sea.” |
An environmental action group called the Tree Musketeers spearheaded the action to beautify a main road near Los Angeles International Airport with trees. They called on residents and people who work in El Segundo to help with the work and Northrop Grumman people have replied, in force, on annual volunteer days.
“You have been with us every step of the way in greening Imperial Highway with Trees to the Sea,” wrote Gail Church, executive director of Tree Musketeers, to the Northrop Grumman volunteers when the event was done. “Thank you for helping us finish the project that was 21 years in the making! We hope you all feel proud of what you have helped our young leaders accomplish.”
The organization created “Trees to the Sea” to beautify a road that goes from the airport to the Pacific Ocean, and also to mitigate air pollution and noise. They looked at the project as expanding the “community forest” in the concrete reality of Los Angeles.
“Being on Imperial Highway again this year for the final event was fun,” said project organizer Keith Burton from Community Relations. “We saw how the trees we helped plant years ago have grown. I want to thank all the people and their families who have come to this Saturday event over the years.”
