Advancing Innovative Technology
Research and Capabilities
The administration has stated that “America’s economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on cybersecurity and that protecting (our cyber) infrastructure is a national security priority.”
Consistent with this national priority, cybersecurity is a major priority in Northrop Grumman’s research program.
To build a successful program, we have leveraged information from a variety of sources, established cooperative R&D agreements, worked on contract R&D efforts and funded joint projects with leading research universities. Chief among these is the Northrop Grumman Cybersecurity Research Consortium. Formed in December 2009, the consortium is helping to address the cybersecurity challenges of the future.
Our Independent research and development work leverages experience and customer experiences from across Northrop Grumman to provide innovative solutions in the areas of modeling, simulation, and situational awareness.
Northrop Grumman’s Cybersecurity Solutions Center (CSSC) is dedicated to independent R&D on cybersecurity projects as well as to carrying out contract work for our customers.
Programs
From a program perspective, Northrop Grumman is performing on programs today that will yield new technologies for tomorrow. Highlights include:
The Cyber Security Operations Center, or CSOC, developed and built by Northrop Grumman, which is a comprehensive cyber threat detection and response center that focuses on protecting Northrop Grumman and translating these “lessons learned” to our customers’ networks and data worldwide.
The company plays a lead role in protecting the Global Information Grid, managing 3 of the 5 top level DoD Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTS). Northrop Grumman serves as prime contractor for the Army’s 1st IO and the Marine Corps (MCNOSC). Northrop Grumman is a leader in doing Internet2 high performance national research network and the Air Force Host-Based Solutions System program. Finally, under the Virtual Integrated Support for Information Operations eNvironment (VisIOn) system contract, Northrop Grumman provides situational awareness and mission planning capabilities for information operations across all U.S. military commands.
Our experience with this community affords us insight and know-how that informs our approach to solutions for other Federal customers including:
- Department of Homeland Security’s St. Elizabeth’s Headquarters information technology (IT) infrastructure and secure communications and operations contract
- State Department’s iPost Dashboard program
- Justice Department Cybersecurity Assessment and Management Program (CSAM)
- Treasury Department’s GSOC contract
Internationally, Northrop Grumman developing a cyber range in the UK under the SATURN (Self-organizing Adaptive Technology under Resilient Networks) network defense research program, a collaborative research project focused on information infrastructure.
