Philip A. Teel


Philip A. Teel is corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, a leading integrator of complex, mission-enabling C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) systems. He is also a member of the company’s Corporate Policy Council.

As the corporation’s lead C4ISR sector, Mission Systems develops systems that enable the U.S. Department of Defense and the intelligence community to execute missions at all levels of command, from intelligence sensing, situational awareness, decision support, and enabling or producing effects in support of customers’ missions. The sector also develops defense, security and air traffic control solutions for international customers. Headquartered in Reston, Va., the sector has 17,000 employees worldwide.

Teel joined Northrop Grumman in 2000. Most recently, he served as corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman’s Ship Systems sector, the largest builder of non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy. He previously served as sector vice president of Airborne Early Warning and Electronic Warfare Systems at Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Systems sector in Bethpage, N.Y.

Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Teel was vice president of Navy and Maritime programs for Raytheon’s Aircraft Integration Systems. From 1987 to 1993, he served in Raytheon as program manager, program director, and integrated technical and management team leader for various large defense systems.

He began his career as an employee of the Naval Air Systems Command, where he held positions in engineering and program management.

Teel earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in engineering management from the George Washington University.

He has served on the board of governors for the Mississippi Economic Council, the board of directors of the Gulf Coast Business Council and is a member of the Mississippi Partnership for Economic Development. He is a former chairman of the Business Council of New York.
