Our precision actuation capabilities continue to expand. For our Deformable Mirrors, AOA Xinetics has long supplied actuators made of Lead-Magnesium-Niobate (PMN). PMN actuators are similar to piezoelectric transducers (PZTs), but offer negligible hysteresis and creep, and approximately three times the stiffness for a given volume of material.

We incorporate PMN, PZT and DC brushless servomotor actuators in custom subsystems for clients. Our preloaded servomotor systems with high-resolution absolute encoders achieve zero backlash with no hysteresis.

We also have experience making air-bearing-mounted, multiple-axis systems devoid of friction and stiction. We also use zero-backlash flexures and traditional bearings.
