​Northrop Grumman’s Advanced Signals and Cyber (ASC) team leverages a skilled applied research and development staff to address signal processing challenges and firmware design. The ASC team specializes in developing tailored solutions using Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications in custom hardware and radio interfaces.

The portfolio of services the ASC team has to offer includes:

  • Producing original research results
  • Investigating and developing advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms
  • Developing cutting edge real-time Software Radio (SR) and Software Defined Radio (SDR) capabilities
  • Developing innovative firmware and low size, weight and power (SWAP) deployable hardware solutions with a focus on signal processing for wireless communications and other diverse signal structures

The ASC team management leverages extensive experience in supporting Department of Defense and other government agency needs to provide responsive, tailored solutions to complex problems.

The ASC team consists of a small group of highly skilled engineers, mathematicians, and computer scientists dedicated to solving some of the most challenging problems that the defense and government sectors face.

Research

  • Algorithm development and real-time DSP
  • DSP for wireless communications including: detection and parameter estimation, channel estimation, equalization, Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) processing and space-time coding
  • SDR including: C/C++ code optimization, code architecture, SIMD programming
  • Bit level algorithms for communications systems including: data compression, error-correction (turbo, convolutional and Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes) and digital data encryption
  • Image processing

Software, firmware and digital design

  • FPGA development on Intel (formeerly Altera), Xilinx and Microsemi using System Verilog, Verilog and VHDL
  • Embedded systems and processor design
  • ASIC design for satellite and cellular baseband systems
  • Signal processing, image processing, audio and video streaming and DSP applications
  • Real-time DSP for wireless communications
  • Real-time SDR implementation on General Purpose Processors

Facilities

The Communications Research Lab (CRL) is designed to facilitate synthesized research, programming and hardware experimentation at multiple security levels, depending on project and customer needs. Collaborative research, FPGA development, and bench-work for hardware integration can all be accomplished on site, in a secure environment. The CRL is equipped with a full suite of laboratory equipment for signal generation, SDR research, wireless signals generation and analysis by the ASC team’s experienced staff.
