High School Internships

What do you want to be when you grow up? Do you want to build planes? Design satellites? Save lives? It’s never too early to start thinking and dreaming big. Research shows that students who have an interest in math and science are more likely to succeed the earlier they get started.

We’re committed to nurturing the engineers of tomorrow. Together with our partners and employees, we help promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in K–12 education.

We also sponsor specialized high school internship programs to give aspiring engineers the chance to experience what engineering is all about:

High School Involvement Partnership Program (HIP)

We give aspiring engineers the chance to experience what engineering is all about!  Below are some highlights of the Northrop Grumman HIP program:

  • Encourages and advances the pursuit of technical degrees by providing hands-on experiences and improving access to postsecondary education.
  •  Over 100 students from twenty different Baltimore City high schools have been mentored by our employees. The program has been expanded to other locations across the country.
  • Provides high school seniors with school credit and on-the-job experience (not available at all locations).
  • Students are on site for approximately 8 weeks during the summer learning about Northrop Grumman and gaining real world work experience

Wondering what you would do in the role of a high school intern at Northrop Grumman?

Stand Alone Work
Building an adaptive requirements comparison database (MS Excel & MS Access); working with technical documents; investigating emerging technologies; researching potential solutions.

Team Based Project Work
Designing new tools to aid in the defense and hardening of cyber networks; actively participating in the testing of various vendor products; working as an equal contributor, side by side, with experienced professionals to develop solutions for the nation’s challenges.

Developing Personal Skills
Giving presentations to senior leadership on many different topics related to both team and stand alone work; adapting to different work related tasks; communicating with team members and management.
