Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.


We are currently seeking a Configuration/Systems Engineer on our NASA Programs Configuration Management Office (CMO) team at our Promontory, Utah offices.


Role Description & Responsibilities:


The Configuration/Systems Engineer is responsible for documenting and improving the methods, tools and processes used to establish and control requirements baselines for multiple NASA Programs.
The
Configuration/Systems Engineer accordingly completes and/or leads a cross-functional team in completing CM assignments.  The Configuration/Systems Engineer functionally reports to the NASA Programs Office, and represents NASA Programs interests in pursuing program-wide and/or division-wide CM-related initiatives.


 Job Duties:

  •  Prepares and maintains program plans and standard work instructions (SWIs) that define how configuration management will be accomplished on multiple NASA programs
  • Directly and professionally interfaces with NASA customers, DCMA, functional/integrated product teams, other prime contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in accomplishing CM for NASA programs

  • Drafts or provides input to policies and procedures that govern CM-related processes, collaborating with stakeholders to identify and pursue CM process improvements

  • Represents NASA Programs on committees aimed at integrating or standardizing CM-related initiatives across programs and across divisions.  Proposes and champions changes to driving requirements, where appropriate

  • Leads a team of CM, program and engineering professionals, ensuring CM processes are established and implemented through e.g. work instructions and/or training

  • Ensures data deliverables are submitted in accordance with contract requirements

  • Represents NASA programs in selection, development, implementation and maintenance of digital tools such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, and design/modeling/production software

  • Provides expertise and CM solutions in meeting customers and company objectives

  • Performs troubleshooting and determines solutions for CM-related issues  

Qualifications

Experience Requirements:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of experience related to design, manufacture, procurement, inspection, test and/or project management of technical products

  • Ability to travel:  Travel expectation is approx. 10% 15%

     

Experience Preferred:

  • CM experience during all phases of a program is preferred

  • CM experience in the aerospace, or a similarly complex/critical, industry is strongly preferred

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of configuration management principles and practices
  • Computer skills, especially use of Microsoft Office suite and ADOBE Pro

  • Familiarity with digital tools, especially PLM and ERP systems

  • Broad understanding of aerospace products and science/engineering practices

  • Ability to lead diverse teams

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Good time management and organizational skills

  • Detail oriented, but able to understand the big picture

     

Education/Certifications


  • BS degree in Science or Engineering or a related technical field is required

  • CMII basic (or similar) certification is preferred
