Roles and Responsibilities:
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grummans IBCS Cybersecurity team. The team ensures compliance with DoD directives such as 8510.01 and NIST 800-53 (RMF) for the IBCS development program to include the tactical system and development environment.

The Cyber Software Engineer will provide support for the Cybersecurity team in implementation and maintenance for RMF compliance, and in the development and interpretation of cybersecurity requirements as part of the Information Technology (IT) acquisition development process and assisting with the formulation of cybersecurity/IT budgets. This position is designed to have a software engineering code analysis focus area. Ideal candidates would have software engineering experience and would be ready to learn how code analysis is a crucial part of a whole program cyber security posture. Cyber process / policy documentation will be generated and / or modified in this position. Customer interaction may also be required. Therefore good written and/or verbal communication skills are very important for this team.

The primary role of this position includes working as part of a team to: Analyze, estimate, validate and report to all levels from peers to senior decision makers on the Cyber Risk level of the program. The candidate must interface with: system architecture design teams to provide feedback on cyber requirements; operations and support organizations to coordinate regular cyber assessments. The performance of these tasks will identify deficiencies as well as potential improvements to the existing IBCS systems cyber posture and its ability to obtain/maintain an Authority to Operate (ATO). This position has the potential for opportunities to participate in projects concerning one or more of the following areas: Software Assurance, Site Assessments, Program Protection Planning (PPP), and/or RMF cyber system trade studies for various system architectures Candidate will be responsible for performing and/or evaluating vulnerability scans on program generated source code as well at systems utilizing approved network assessment tools and appropriate Government provided software / scanning tools.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2 years of Software Engineering experience; or a Master's and 0 years; 4 additional years of Software Engineering experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active Secret clearance required
  • Technical knowledge/experience of one or more of the following: Java, C++, Python
  • Ability to review program generated code and comments, analyze technical vulnerability finding reports, and discuss both at a technical level with program software team
  • DoD 8570 baseline certification for an IAT Level II or higher within six (6) months of hire
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    .
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct Cyber experience is not required, however previous knowledge / experience in cyber focused code analysis would be a plus
  • Missile Defense experience
  • Micro Focus Fortify Static Application Security experience is a plus
  • Experience performing security audits (reviewing systems and / or security log files for anomalies)
  • Knowledge of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) with team members, managers, and customers on complex and difficult engineering/software issues pertaining to assigned tasks
  • Having IT system administration experience / knowledge is also a plus
