Roles and Responsibilities:



  • Monitors and operates electronic digital computers to process business, scientific, engineering, or other data according to operating instructions; sets control switches; ensure that correct peripheral equipment is utilized and move switches to clear system and operate the equipment; selects and loads input and output units with materials such as tapes and printout forms
  • Observes equipment and control panels for operator messages or error indicators
  • Sets up and runs diagnostic test and reacts appropriately to the messages and reports errors or machine malfunctions as required
  • May perform clerical work incidental to machine operations such as labeling tape containers, maintaining production records, replenishing specified stock items, and distributing output materials
  • Operates peripheral equipment to perform such operations as tape-to-printer
  • May work with multiple systems

Job Functions: 

The TRIMARC operators have responsibility of assessing all incoming traffic data and determining in real time the content and priority of traffic reports to be disseminated.  The TRIMARC operators accurately process large volumes of data from a wide variety of sources.  The TRIMARC operators are the principal contact for many agencies and members of the public.  The operators routinely communicate with emergency service personnel and transportation officials representing various agencies in the TRIMARC region.  The operators telephone manners and image will directly reflect on the image of the TOC and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. 

Duties Include: 
  •  Monitoring automated traffic management system.  This includes checking on road sensor data and double checking video surveillance systems and mobile units to confirm data
  • Watching Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) video monitors
  • Monitoring emergency frequency scanners
  • Communicating effectively with the public and government agencies
  • Maintaining radio communications with Freeway Service Patrols
  • Maintaining radio and telephone communications with PSAs
  • Crosschecking static databases regarding construction and special events
  • Providing written reports as required
  • Other ancillary duties as determined by the Operations Manager

EAST END Tunnel duties 
Operators are responsible for monitoring and responding East End Tunnel assets and systems which include
  • SCADA systems and software
  • SIMPLEX security systems
  • CCTV surveilling cameras 
  • Public Address systems (PA)
  • Radio Override and rebroadcasting systems
  • Communicating effectively with the public and government agencies


Basic Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Operations of computer applications i.e. Windows 10 and beyond
  • Capability to work well in high-pressure situations
  • Great verbal and typed communications
  • Ability to learn technical skills needed quickly, in order to monitor and respond to various system applications.
  • Understanding of CCTV controls and monitors
  • Team oriented to accomplish common goals
Preferred Qualifications:    
The TRIMARC operator position requires background and skills in the following areas:       

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Knowledge of municipality and area traffic management organizations, including state, metro and local emergency services
  • Intimate knowledge of metropolitan roadways including their multiple or alternate names, under whose jurisdiction they fall, where that jurisdiction changes, and what alternate routes exist
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple diverse simultaneous inputs, including automated road sensor data, emergency frequency scanners, two-way radios, CCTV cameras, aircraft, and computer databases
  • Ability to use office equipment including personal computers and their software with a particular emphasis on graphical user interface applications
  • Ability to type accurately
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure.
