Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Technology Ventures Project Manager. This position reports to the Sector Manager of Innovation under the Research and Technology Directorate. In this role the selected candidate will partake in building, executing, and managing two internal innovation programs, Spark and Incubator. This opportunity is located on our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA.


SPARK (the employee innovation funding pipeline tool) responsibilities include internal advertising and building awareness of the campaign, solicitation of ideas, formation of a council of subject matter experts to vet projects, oversight of funded projects, and assisting participants in transitioning ideas into business areas. The selected candidate is responsible for standing up a new internal INCUBATOR. This Incubator involves creating a curriculum of materials and content to aid participants in maturing their ability to better understand and grow startup-like business ideas. This will promptly change into a mentorship role which includes counseling participants in business techniques, and program management using lean startup-like practices.


In addition to the responsibilities above, the selected candidate will:


  • Communicate across all levels from senior leadership, to recent college graduates

  • Drive outreach campaigns in conjunction with the communications team

  • Self-manage and self-direct with minimal instruction

  • Work in a flexible, dynamic environment with the ability to quickly shift mindset between HR, business development, and technical problem solving perspectives

  • Manage a budget of seedling funding, maintaining regular performance appraisals and gating of funding

  • Network across a vast enterprise to connect ideas and technical solutions to mission areas

  • Implement continuous assessment of ongoing projects and shift procedures when feedback indicates

  • Keep a strategic mindset while enabling individuals to execute projects

  • Research and develop curriculum from internal as well as external sources (including text, video, and in-person learning)

  • Mentor employees on how to generate a business model, determine value proposition, and align for execution.

  • Organize documentation


The ideal candidate has excellent communications skills, able to connect with and create a network of collaborators (from executive leadership through individual contributors). They are organized, able to work with minimal oversight and direction, adaptable to change, able to move quickly between tactical and strategic mindsets. This person is able to learn unfamiliar topics quickly and deeply with minimal guidance. This person has an understanding of empathy, with the ability to work closely with wide variety of personalities.



Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 6 years of project management experience; or Master's degree with 4 years of project management experience

Versed in the concepts of Lean Startup, business model development, agile development, and design thinking


Previous experience performing executive briefings and/or trainings


Preferred Qualifications:


STEM Bachelor's degree with 6 years of project management experience; or STEM Master's degree with 4 years of project management experience

Experience in business management, startups, corporate innovation, design thinking, rapid prototyping, tech scouting, mentoring entrepreneurs, government contracting.


Experience with front end business development
