Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.


Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is looking for an Associate Electrical Engineer to join our team in Wallops Island, VA.  As an integral member of the Antares integration, test, and launch operations team, the Associate Electrical Engineer will support various aspects of the assembly, integration, test, and launch of the Antares launch vehicle to deliver supplies and scientific equipment to the International Space Station under the NASA Commercial Resupply Services (CRS2) contract.  Candidates will contribute to the final assembly, integration, test and flight of various orbital and sub-orbital space launch vehicle systems.

Specific duties may include:
  • Work in a fast-paced team environment performing launch vehicle avionics hardware & software system and subsystem level integration, test and launch operations.
 
  • Coordinating and leading Electrical Technicians performing functions supporting activities such as, integration, test, checkout, operation, and maintenance of complex electronic flight, ground testing and launching systems
 
  • Hands-on electrical integration and test of flight hardware; operating and maintaining electronic or electro-mechanical components, circuits or systems;
 
  • Reviewing, updating and maintaining test procedures utilized during manufacturing and launch pad operations for correctness and completeness against mission requirements, launch vehicle configuration, and component changes and modifications
 
  • Supports and leads the testing and/or evaluation/validation of electrical systems
 
  • Coordinating and performing testing with NASA, FAA, and Wallops Flight Facility Range and Safety personnel
 
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with launch vehicle Systems, Mechanical, Quality and Safety Teams.
 
  • Troubleshooting, documenting and dispositioning flight and test equipment hardware and software discrepancies and pursuing root cause and corrective actions;
 
  • Evaluating and implementing Lean solutions to decrease cycle times.
 
  • Maintaining launch day schedule by performing other duties as necessary.

Experience Requirements:

  • The candidate will possess a fundamental knowledge of and an understanding of the interrelationship of electronic hardware, electro-mechanical devices and control and data acquisition software
  • Hands on electrical integration and testing experience with multiple sub-systems or components involving a broad range of engineering disciplines such as; analog, digital, power, RF and embedded systems is desirable
  • Candidate must possess skills needed to interpret mission requirements, launch vehicle configuration, and component changes and modifications in order to update and maintain and perform test procedures.  Review test data to ensure that hardware has passed all required tests and is flight ready.
  • Knowledge and experience using test automation applications and data analysis tools such as LabVIEW and or MATLAB is desirable.
  • Experience in the testing of space-flight instruments and/or spacecraft or related electronic and electro-mechanical components and systems is desirable but not required.

Prospect Qualifications: A prospect, regardless of age and hiring source must meet all of the below criteria:

  • Bachelors Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other related technical field
  • Possess an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher
  • Be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
  • Ability to work in a fast pace team environment and multi-task
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to work overtime and 2nd shift operations on occasions as required
  • Travel less than 5%
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.7
  • Prior internship or research experience in related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite
