Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Wallops Island, VA. As an integral member of the Antares integration, test, and launch operations team, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will support and manage various aspects of the assembly, integration, test, and launch of the Antares launch vehicle to deliver supplies and scientific equipment to the International Space Station under the NASA Commercial Resupply Services (CRS2) contract. Candidates will contribute to the final assembly, integration, test and flight of various orbital and sub-orbital space launch vehicle systems.
Specific duties may include:
-Hands-on mechanical integration of flight hardware;
-Developing/maintaining processes and procedures for the assembly, test, and flight of launch vehicle systems;
-Designing and developing tooling to aid in the integration and test process;
-Coordinating integration activities with supervisors, program engineers and various customer organizations;
-Leading a team of technicians and quality inspectors in integration and test operations;
-Incorporating design changes on work-in-process or completed assemblies;
-Documenting and dispositioning hardware discrepancies and pursuing root cause and corrective actions;
-Evaluating and implementing Lean solutions to decrease cycle times;
-Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
The candidate will possess an understanding of mechanical system design, integration and test.
Hands on integration experience with multiple sub-systems or components is required
Candidate must possess skills needed to write test procedures and review test data to ensure that hardware is tested properly and has passed all required tests.
Documentation skills and experience on common PC desktop applications are also required.
