Our focus on health and human services addresses critical local needs and disasters that impact our communities.
COVID-19 brought about much need in our local communities, including a rise in food insecurity. Starting in 2021 we developed a goal in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #2—Zero Hunger. By 2030, Northrop Grumman and employees will commit to provide 10,000,000 meals to ensure people, in particular poor and those in vulnerable situations, have year-round access to safe and nutritious food. In 2021, Northrop Grumman and our employees donated 2,414,800 meals.
As part of Hunger Action Month in September, employees support Rise Against Hunger by volunteering to create meal packs. These packs provide sustenance throughout the world in school food programs, orphanages and crisis relief efforts. Since 2013, over 9,000 employees have engaged in volunteerism and packed close to 1,600,000 meals during Rise Against Hunger volunteer events.
Northrop Grumman is a proud supporter of the American Red Cross’ Annual Disaster Responder Program, which helps build a reliable funding base for disaster relief services. During a crisis or tragedy, our contributions help offset a range of expenses and ensure the Red Cross can rapidly respond when disaster strikes. Our employees generously donate to disaster relief initiatives, and over 1,000 employees pledged to donate blood through the American Red Cross SleevesUp campaign in 2021.
We are also an Americares Annual Emergency Response Partner. Their emergency response experts are among the first to respond and stay as long as needed, helping restore health services for survivors. Americares monitors disaster events around the world, conducts in-country needs assessments, pre-positions emergency medical and relief supplies and maintains emergency response expertise, capabilities and pharmacy inventories.
Northrop Grumman has a longstanding partnership with the American Cancer Society. Each year, hundreds of employees across the country participate in Relay for Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. To date, employees have raised approximately $2,000,000 for the American Cancer Society through these events.
