The High School Involvement Partnership (HIP) mentoring program was created to inspire and prepare high school students for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) pathways to fill the future workforce need for diverse innovative leaders.

Exposing high school students to Northrop Grumman’s core capabilities, technology, missions and business priorities
Contributing to students’ development and enhancement of critical skills necessary for success in career, vocation and beyond
Providing a pipeline from high school through college to employment at Northrop Grumman

HIP is Comprised of Two Separate Years of Programming:

Junior Year (November – May):

Exploratory year focused on products, technologies, and workforce skills
Includes 10-12 one-hour virtual sessions.
Site specific activities at your local Northrop Grumman facility ~2-3 times per year

Senior Year (November – April):

Individual or group mentoring
Development of a hands-on project – schedule dependent on project

What are the qualifications to participate in HIP?

Interest in STEM, particularly engineering, physics, math, cyber, computer science, manufacturing
3.0 or greater unweighted cumulative GPA
Attend a public high school in a Northrop Grumman community
U.S. citizen

What if my community or school is not participating in the HIP mentoring program?

We offer the program in select communities where our employees work and live with plans to grow and expand over the next few years. This page will be updated as additional schools are offered the opportunity to participate. Sites which are not participating in HIP will continue to work with school partners in their local community that meet our charitable giving guidelines.

What are virtual seminars?

Virtual seminars are on-line meetings designed to provide an introduction to Northrop Grumman, our core capabilities, products, programs, as well as skills to expand your development and STEM literacy. HIP participants are required to attend 10-12 sessions in year 1. Examples of subjects covered in the virtual sessions include: Manufacturing, Human Resources & Our Culture, Cyber Security, Pilot Talk, Meet the Interns, Systems Engineering and so much more.

Before applying, what should I think about and discuss with my parents/guardians?

HIP is a commitment, so before you apply you should consider:
- Confirm that your school/class is a participating HIP partner
- Your current school schedule
- During junior year, all virtual seminars are scheduled on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET
- After school activities, sports or other jobs
- The commute and your ability to provide your own transportation

How to Apply

The HIP mentoring program operates in select communities with designated partner schools. During the 2023-2024 school year, HIP will be offered at Northrop Grumman facilities in the following locations:
