Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL is currently seeking a Chief Architect to lead development and implementation of system architectures and technology roadmap for Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS) Program and related product line initiatives. IBCS integrates various radars and weapons to construct and deliver a single integrated air picture with high accuracy and broad surveillance and protection areas.

The IBCS Chief Architect designs and develops system architectures and defines key capabilities and performance requirements for new and existing systems. Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop thorough definition of system external interfaces including various sensors and effectors
  • Evaluate system expansion and upgrade opportunities and define the system implementation approach and operational concept
  • Align with enterprise standards, processes, procedures, and supervise the quality and implementation of designs
  • Provide technical leadership for system architecture approach and governance definition that enables program-wide execution of digital engineering
  • Support digital thread and integration definition to support overall engineering process and workflow definition & execution
  • Collaborate with customer counterparts to ensure customer understanding of model content and help communicate concerns and issues back to the program

This position will be hired as Consulting Engineer System Architect (Level 7) and reports to the Operating Unit Engineering Manager.  The position is located in Huntsville AL.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or related technical discipline, and 20 years of applicable experience. 18 years of relevant experience with a Masters degree; 15 years with a PhD
  • Current active Secret clearance
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in systems and product development and understanding of system engineering principles and processes
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a technical leader for complex hardware and software integrated systems
  • Experience with basic systems engineering toolset and languages (e.g. DOORS, Rhapsody, Cameo, UML, SysML)
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgements with limited information
  • Experience with proactively identify issues and solutions to those issues, and drive issues rapidly to closure.
  • Experience with Agile development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) mission and systems
  • Sensor and Effector Domain knowledge as it relates to Battle Management Systems
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills to enable effective personal interaction and collaboration with a multi-disciplined team and customers

Salary Range: $174,000 USD - $262,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
