Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking Senior Chief Architect to join the National Team-Engineering (NT-E) leadership team. The Senior Chief Architect will provide technical and programmatic leadership support across the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Systems Engineering community.

Position Summary / Responsibilities include:

  • This position reports directly to the National Team Program Director. The MDCA will work at senior technical levels within the National Team and across the Missile Defense Industry and the DOD to provide architecture solutions for missile defense programs and capabilities.
  • Guide internal and contract work to define system architecture solutions to address changing MDS threats within and across the program.

  • Create and convey appropriate level mission or domain roadmaps and CONOPS in support of NT IPT product development while implementing short and long-term strategic goals for each.

  • Assure that all planned and in-place end-to-end system architectures are aligned with specific program goals driving systems-of-systems architecture Analysis Task Plans (ATP) and simulation investments utilized to evaluate, define and balance performance across sensor, fire control, weapons and Command and Control (C2) elements to accomplish missile defense missions and mitigate complex target scenes.

  • Supports business captures toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives
  • Supports pursuit/proposal efforts by leading the development of innovative system payload concepts and architectures to meet mission objectives, applying new principles and theories where applicable
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research, studies and applications
  • Supports program execution as definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all program elements (hardware/software/support/test).
  • Leads a multi-disciplined engineering team to ensure compliant technical performance
  • Maintains awareness over technical activities within and across program IPTs for requirements development, hardware/software design, payload integration and verification/validation activities
  • Ensures program is adhering to engineering processes and best practices in design, development, fabrication/assembly, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards
  • Coordinates with functional organization to ensure execution of program statement of work and technical program requirements are met
  • Serves as the program technical point of contact with the customer

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field & 14+ years of related technical experience, OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM field & 12+ years of related technical experience, OR a PhD in a STEM field & 9+ years of related technical experience
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a DoD secret security clearance (US Citizenship Required)
  • Technical understanding in Systems Engineering and Analysis including MBSE, system performance analysis and numerical modeling / simulation, using high-level programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, Java, FORTRAN, or a similar language environment. 
  • Analysis experience in discrimination phenomenology, methods, and techniques. Individual must have experience in aspects of the MDS (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control (FOM, GFC), C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, counter-countermeasures, or threats).
  • Experience in any of the following domains: system concept trade studies, requirements analysis, feasibility analysis, system performance measures of effectiveness analysis, EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, missiles/interceptors, ICBM / hypersonic / MRM / SRM threats, detection/tracking, or Command and Control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.). 
  • Possess communication skills and demonstrated experience leading a team of talented engineers to perform highly technical work, and communicating significant results to senior management, executives, and government stakeholders.
  • Accomplished in working with senior program and government leadership and must be an “influencer”, able to promote good ideas and concepts to decision makers.  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advance degree in STEM field with 20+ years of related technical engineering experience
  • Current & active DoD secret or TS/SCI security clearance
  • Missile Defense experience
  • Experience in development of U.S. Air and Missile Defense systems (e.g., IBCS, PATRIOT, MEADS, THAAD, GMD, etc.)
  • Experience in Digital Transformation and related tools such as DOORS and CAMEO
  • Experience as MDA/SDA employee, military member, FFRDS/UARC/National Lab employee or SETA.  Demonstrate customer intimacy.

Salary Range: $157,500 USD - $236,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
