Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT and will support Sentinel (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD)) program.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Assimilate information from multiple sources, create coherent plans and then execute those plans.
  • Operates independently with little to no supervision, and establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers.

  • This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • A minimum 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 3 years with a Master’s; or 0 years with PhD
  • U.S. Citizenship with active DoD Secret Clearance and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access
  • Missile experience
  • Experience in requirement management tool (DOORS or similar)
  • Experience managing and developing engineering requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Very strong understanding of Systems Engineering (SE) process, including SE experience across multiple levels of integration
  • 2 plus years of SE experience
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Strong Missile experience
  • Strong background in managing and developing engineering requirements
  • Able to assimilate information from multiple sources, create coherent plans and then execute those plans
  • Experience leading technical teams
  • Experience operating independently with little to no supervision

This position reports to Huntsville, AL, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Roy, UT, UT, USA.


Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
