Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector in Azusa, CA is seeking a Staff (Level 5) Digital Engineer to join our hardware engineering team. Qualified candidate will get an opportunity to join a diverse group of individuals supporting our Strategic Force Programs division. This role will report on-site daily. We can accommodate partial telework, but this will be fully dependent upon business/program need.

Selected candidate will be a part of a fast-paced team that develops new products for the on orbit signal processing of infrared imagery for national assets that help to protect the country. Primary assignment will be the design and analysis of digital signal processing electronics for space systems using the latest available space technologies such as, but not limited to on-orbit programmable Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), Systems on a Chip (SoCs), multi-gigabit SERDES communication, on-board processing Single Board Computers (SBCs) and more. This includes working through all phases of a development program including requirements definition and refinement, requirement flow-down and allocation, design, coding, and verification, hardware implementation, and delivery.

Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates digital electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for digital electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

A Staff (Level 5) Electronics Engineer would be expected to have wide range of experiences and capabilities to support various development efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related STEM field & 14+ years of relevant experience or 12+ years with Master’s degree or 9 years with PhD
  • Experience using CCA design and layout software
  • Experience simulating electrical designs using SPICE or equivalent modeling software
  • Experience with lab support equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, power supplies, etc.
  • Experience with deriving architectural design requirements based on top level system requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship Required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill using Mentor Graphics Designer/Expedition for CCA design and layout
  • Experience with scripting languages such as MATLAB, BASH, Python, etc.
  • Experience with designing, coding, verifying, and implementing HDL
  • Experience with embedded systems, SoC, and RTOS designs
  • Utilize SPICE for circuit modeling and system design verification
  • Proven ability designing, integrating and testing mixed signal circuits
  • Experience implementing/debugging RS-422, LVDS, 1553, Spacewire, SrIO, and other communication interfaces
  • Experience with design, analysis, and architecture of digital signal processing electronics systems
  • Strong familiarity with areo or space systems
  • Strong communication experience with executive leadership, customers, and vendors
  • Strong leadership/mentoring capability
  • Professional background on systems deployed on space platforms
  • Active or Current Secret security clearance

Salary Range: $171,600 USD - $257,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
