Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Engineer or Principal Engineer Software to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, California

The software engineer will develop, modify and maintain customized or standardized embedded Air Vehicle operational flight programs using software engineering best practices and standards, and participate in the full life cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance

*** This requisition may be filled at either a Software Engineer level or Principal Software Engineer level ***

Basic Qualifications Engineer Software:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of software engineering testing experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 0 year of software engineering experience

  • Active DoD Secret level clearance and ability to obtain (and maintain) special program access (PAR) prior to start

  • Experience developing software with C/C++ and Python

  • Knowledge of Linux systems and basic commands

  • Familiarity with Program Test infrastructure code

Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer Software:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of software engineering testing experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 0 year of software engineering experience

  • Experience developing software / writing code in C++ and Python

  • Active DoD Secret level clearance and ability to obtain (and maintain) special program access (PAR) prior to start

  • Knowledge of Linux systems and basic commands

  • Familiarity with Program Test infrastructure code

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Vehicle management software or equivalent VXWORKS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with Eclipse, Git, Rhapsody, DOORS, Atlassian Tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, Crucible, Bamboo)

  • Experience with Agile development.

  • Experience with Google Test

  • Experience with scripting in Python and Bash

  • Experience developing software targeted for Linux

  • Active Program Access


Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
