We are looking for you to join our team as a Sr. Staff Embedded Engineer Software  based out of McClellan, CA in the Sacramento area or may consider as a Hybrid Remote/Onsite opportunity (if not local, will need to permanently relocate to the area). As a Sr. Staff Embedded Engineer Software at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. The sector strategic Independent Research And Development (IRAD) initiatives are seeking software developers and integrators who have experience in cloud-native technologies, architectures, and techniques, with a keen interest in learning how to apply these techniques and architectures to the embedded, edge and forward deployed systems. Ideally, experience in software development and integration for embedded systems is desired, but not required. In addition, the ideal candidate would have an understanding of the impact to software deployments and configurations on various processing platforms, with limited resources. Our team uses agile development methods to support multiple projects with a single engineering team, and is committed to using Dev*Ops processes for enabling systems of systems solutions. Our initiatives are seeking candidates who are self-starters, interested in investigating the art of the possible with cloud-native technologies, enabling new use cases.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The new team member will perform multiple roles depending on the phase of the project.  We design state of the art sensors incorporating the best products from the commercial industry, when possible. With ever-accelerating technological advances and growing system complexity, the job requires the ability to build, integrate, and optimize complex systems and services.  The job includes technical decision making, requirements analysis,  build/buy analysis, software and system design, software development, documentation, mentoring, and test and debug of software systems. You will perform analysis of system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent,  data processing requirements, programming techniques and controls; define interfaces, and prepares operating instructions.  As a lead you will ensure both system and software standards and DevSecOp practices are met.  In addition you will:

  • Drive a program to success

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems

  • Lead teams and mentor junior engineers

  • Follow software development standards for configuration management, software reuse, and Dev*Ops processes

  • Foster innovation while maintaining system design/requirements to maintain

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and a minimum of 14 years related years of experience.  Master’s Degree and 12 Years or 9 Years and a PhD.

  • Experience with C/C++ and Java in a LINUX/UNIX environment

  • Experience leading teams

  • Experience with containers, container development and deployment

  • Understanding of all phases of software development.

  • US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Cloud Native Compute Foundation evaluation categories

  • Understanding of DoD’s PlatformOne infrastructure offering, and Iron Bank container registry

  • Experience creating, deploying, dynamically adjusting containers for systems

  • Experience with kubernetes (K8s and k3s) and cloud-native operating systems

  • Experience with software factories and Dev*Ops

  • Experience with BitBucket, JIRA, Jenkins, Confluence, and other Atlassian tools

  • Experience with Python, BASH, and other scripting languages

  • Practical experience in an Agile / Dev*Ops environment 

  • Experience with object-oriented SW design



Salary Range: $178,700 USD - $268,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
