Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Thermal Engineer located in Northridge, CA.

In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for conducting thermal analyses on various components of a missile system.  Candidates must be able to perform thermal analyses with less supervision from Experienced thermal analysts or lead, also able to mentoring new / non-experienced engineers /w SINDA software skill plus, good communication skills.

Tasks include:

  • Reading customer SOW/Technical Specifications and deriving boundary conditions for thermal models
  • Creating system level thermal models of assemblies and detailed thermal models of subassemblies and individual parts
  • Creating thermal models of circuit card assemblies down to the component junction level
  • Performing steady state and transient thermal analyses to predict temperatures, heat flows, and heat sinking requirements
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers to achieve successful design and fabrication programs/projects
  • Prepare for PDR/CDR
  • work schedule 4 X 10
  • Must be on site

Other roles/responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform hand calculation to verify thermal models
  • Design thermal environmental tests to verify thermal models
  • Preparing and presenting results/findings to peers and customers
  • Interface with suppliers and customers on an as needed basis

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 9+ years of experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer and aero heating modeling techniques
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Proficient in FEMAP / SINDA (or other commercial thermal analysis codes)
  • Must be able to obtain a secret security clearance within a timeframe set forth by management; U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SINDA skill plus
  • Knowledge of MINIVER or other aero heating codes a plus
  • Current Active Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
