Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to lead the Telemetry (TM)/Flight Termination System (FTS) design and development effort on our Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) missile program and work with our talented Advanced Weapons team in Northridge, CA. 

As the TM/FTS lead, you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the TM/FTS development, integration, assembly, test, and checkout of subsystem solution for the Stand-in Attack Weapon missile system development. You will be accountable for the technical performance, staffing, and management of cost, schedule, and quality pertaining to the TM/FTS development. Strong communication, collaboration, leadership, and team building skills are essential. Successful candidates are comfortable working in a dynamic, fast paced, aerospace team environment while possessing technical proficiency in analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and ability to interface across the different engineering teams. This position will require close collaboration with team members of other functional teams within the program and other existing programs having similar technology as well as working with the program to meet the customer’s needs in a competitive procurement environment.

In this role, the selected candidate will (but not be limited to):

  • Review system-level requirements and the allocation to the TM/FTS subsystem to evaluate/develop TM/FTS subsystem specification
  • Perform functional analysis and trade studies for technical solutions with respect to concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance
  • Lead the effort of system/subsystems integration, test, and requirements verification activities of the TM/FTS
  • Generate well-defined and executable subsystem requirements documents, interface documents, and test and verification documents
  • Collaborate with the Test & Evaluation team and the USAF/Flight Range to obtain necessary flight clearance certifications
  • Define and track system technical performance measurement pertaining to the subsystem
  • Develop technical review materials for TM/FTS design and development details and status in preparation and presentation for Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, System Verification Review, Test Readiness Review, and other program reviews as needed
  • Collaborate cross-functionally/IPTs to establish and maintain coherent information among team members
  • Manage critical subcontractors for the developing and testing of TM/FTS
  • Perform evaluations of the TM/FTS Subsystems design and among the other SiAW subsystem development for a successful overall system design.

Relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available.

This position is contingent upon available funding/program award.

The selected candidate for this position is required to be on-site in Northridge, CA. 

Basic qualifications:

  • Current Active Secret clearance or higher with a Periodic Reinvestigation within the last 5 years.
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of five (14) years of systems engineering experience; will consider a Master of Science / Doctor of Philosophy degree in an Engineering discipline with less years of experience
  • Experience as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, Technical lead, or other leadership role with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in design and development of TM/FTS or related products
  • Experience in communicating with all levels of peers, management, and customers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion.
  • Experience working in the defense industry or weapon systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in development, integration, and test of antenna/RF design
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Must have experience with Requirements Management Tool, e.g., DOORS
  • Experience with Agile Program/Project Planning and Management
  • Experience with Digital Engineering
  • Experience across all phases of a program lifecycle


Salary Range: $161,000 USD - $241,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
