Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 (Section Manager) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Palmdale, CA on the 4/10 2nd Shift. This position will support the Vehicle Engineering organization, reporting to the Vehicle Engineering Department Manager.

This position will spend approximately 80% of their time in the Subsystem Design Engineering disciplines, as directed by the Vehicle Engineering program IPT Lead and 20% of their time supporting the Functional Home Room.

The working hours for this position are 3:00 pm - 1:30 am, four days per week.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead a growing team of Subsystem Design engineers and will be responsible for leading all managerial tasks relevant to Vehicle Subsystems. 
  • The manager will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and facilitating communications, tasking, scheduling, and technical reviews with each individual contributor’s execution lead in Palmdale, CA.
  • Recruiting, staffing, retaining talent, leading weekly team meetings, facilitating bi‑weekly 1:1 meetings, and holding performance review discussions. 
  • Supporting relevant VE Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems Community of Practice is expected.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in a vehicle subsystems field, such as subsystems design or subsystems architecture.
  • Experience in a technical leadership/management role.
  • Ability to work second shift
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or an Advanced Degree in Aerospace, Civil, Material, Chemical, and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in a technical leadership/management role.
  • Experience with BTP development, applicable notes, BOM, sign-off process.
  • Experience with CPLM, Teamcenter, CATIA, NX-CAD, and/or similar CAD packages.
  • Experience with Staffing Forecasting.
  • Experience leading an engineering team within a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manufacturing and/or flight test processes.
  • Experience working Special Access Programs.
  • Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
