Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for an Electromechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Vehicle & Software Engineering Department. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

As an Electromechanical Engineer you will:

  • Apply knowledge of mechanisms structural analysis principles (stress strain, deflection, and thermal distortion) to analyze complex mechanical designs
  • Assess design integrity based on required maximum predicted environments generated by extreme temperatures, accelerations, acoustic loads, shock, and random vibration loads through evaluation of system trade studies, preliminary/detailed designs, loading conditions and verification processes
  • Support preliminary and critical design review content for peer and customer presentations. Prepare reports/procedures to document analysis results and practices as required
  • Employ strong interpersonal and communication skills while operating within an integrated product team
  • Work with agility and minimal direction to complete concurrent program tasks on schedule
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues on specific projects
  • Provide as-needed engineering support to material review boards and failure review boards
  • Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 2 years of professional engineering experience; OR Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET-accredited university with 0 years of engineering professional experience
  • Experience with Creo, Solidworks, NX, or CATIA V5 industry CAD software
  • Experience with FEMAP, NX Nastran, Patran, or Nastran industry FEM software
  • 1+ years of experience with electromechanical, opto-mechanical, or mechanisms design
  • Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) applications per ASME Y.14-5
  • Candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the SCI level

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Active U.S. Government security clearance at the SCI level with a background investigation date within 10 years
  • Experience with successful design, development, analysis, and verification of opto-mechanical or mechanized or electro-mechanical configured items
  • Demonstrated application of hardware systems engineering associated with the integration of products into complex Aircraft and/or Spacecraft subsystems
  • Experience with development of process improvements and standardized tools
  • Experience with ENOVIA/SMARTEAM Product Lifecycle Management
  • Experience creating Mathcad and Matlab files to perform hand calculations verifying structural integrity of the hardware
  • Proficiency in common analysis tools and analytical techniques including primary/secondary structures, bearings, gears, and bolted and/or bonded joints

Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
