We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal / Sr Principal ECAD Librarian based out of San Diego. What you will get to do:

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an innovative, creative ECAD Librarian who is ready for the challenges, responsibilities, and rewards that come with working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at the Rancho Carmel Facility in San Diego, California.

The ECAD Librarian will be the primary focal point for leading Mentor Graphics Xpedition library development activities, working closely with engineering teams to ensure high reliability of the ECAD/PCB library. Additionally, this candidate will contribute to the evolution of the design process and tools as our organization continues to grow and will be part of testing and evaluating new tools or tools features.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain PCB component libraries to IPC standards and requirements
  • Work closely with Design Engineers, Component Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers to create schematic symbols and PCB component footprints
  • Verify and validate schematic symbols and physical footprints for parts created by other librarians for accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Publish library parts to the ECAD library within established company standards for use by the Design Engineers across the organization.
  • Process CAD Library requests for new parts and analyze/modify existing library parts for improved readability of the schematic or manufacturability of the component footprint.
  • Optimize and maintain documentation of the ECAD library management process.
  • Assist and support users of the ECAD/PCB tools. Implement tool upgrades and provide documentation for company specific customizations,
  • Integrate ECAD tool with other company processes and tools,
  • Research and identify tools to enhance design and development process and documentation,
  • Write scripts to automate routine tasks associated with ECAD applications, databases, and libraries. Write scripts to improve schematic or PCB design process.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications for Principal ECAD Librarian:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree; or 0 years with a PhD
    • An additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree
  • Proficient with ECAD/PCB tools.
  • Experience interpreting manufacturer component datasheets including electrical, functional and mechanical data
  • Experience in ECAD/PCB library development and tool administration
  • Familiarity with IPC-7351 for library component creation
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical design processes
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing process
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal ECAD Librarian:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with 9 years of experience; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree; or 4 years with a PhD
    • An additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree
  • Proficient with ECAD/PCB tools.
  • Experience interpreting manufacturer component datasheets including electrical, functional and mechanical data
  • Experience in ECAD/PCB library development and tool administration
  • Familiarity with IPC-7351 for library component creation
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical design processes
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing process
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and PCB design experience.
  • Proficient with ECAD/PCB tools: Mentor Graphics Xpedition tool suite including Xpedition Designer, Layout and EDM Librarian.
  • Security Clearance

Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
