What You’ll Get To Do: 

The Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplinary program team responsible for architecting, designing, testing, and deploying next-generation, specialized communication, control and sensing systems critical to our customers' missions. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team oriented; brings solid engineering skills along with a multi-disciplined background, a hands-on work ethic, and a good understanding of engineering fundamentals. This opportunity involves a broad spectrum of tasking that will rely on the candidate’s existing skills and experience.  

Although this is primarily a software engineering position, working at a field site offers involvement in almost every aspect of product design and program support including maintenance and upgrades of existing equipment, and development of new systems and equipment. ​Deploying at sea with customer personnel is not a requirement, but many of our engineers choose to do so because it allows them to experience and evaluate the real-world performance of the systems they have designed and built. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers to ​contribute to system requirements generation, hardware-selection trade studies, circuit design, and embedded software development including algorithms, controls and GUIs 
  • Perform integration and testing of systems. 

This position may be filled as a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer based on the qualifications listed below.” 

Basic Qualifications for Principal Embedded Software Engineer: 

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience OR M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related STEM degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or a PhD and 0 years of relevant work experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 
  • Must have an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain (and maintain) a TS/SCI prior to start date 
  • Demonstrated software programming experience in C, C++, C# 

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer: 

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience OR M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related STEM degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience or a PhD and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. An additional 4 years of experience may  be considered in lieu of a degree. 
  • Must have an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain (and maintain) a TS/SCI clearance prior to start date 
  • Demonstrated software programming experience in C, C++, C#  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Active Top Secret Clearance 
  • Experience designing and supporting mixed signal systems 
  • Experience with Python and microcontroller development environments such as Kiel uVision, MicroChip MPLAB, TI Code Composer, and/or MS Visual Studio 
  • Experience with embedded systems debugging and system analysis tools such as JTAG emulators, USB or benchtop logic analyzers, and data acquisition tools 
  • Experience using software configuration management tools such as GIT HUB or similar

    Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
    Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
