    Position Summary 

    Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is looking for team members who want to solve interesting, complex problems, which protect our nation. Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Advanced Mission Solutions (AMS) Internal Research and Development (IRAD) and supporting a project focused on Threat Missile Modeling and Simulation. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO with opportunities for hybrid/remote work.

    The Principal Systems Engineering role is responsible for developing system architecture models at multiple levels within the AMS IRAD programs.  The engineer is responsible for developing an architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architect to understand the technical development process, as well as consider the application of rules and principles to simplify, improve, and/or accelerate processes for complex engineering development in a modeling and simulation environment.  The Principal Systems Engineer will understand the technical process that is currently being utilized, and apply Systems Engineering principals via Model-Based Systems Engineering to determine the adequacy of current processes and software architecture to inform, design, and implement new capabilities that increase efficiency and organization of the IRAD project.  

     Responsibilities include:  

    • Develop a software architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architect to capture the tools, actions, and processes that characterize current modeling and simulation efforts
    • Ensure integrity of process traceability from stakeholders to implementation 
    • Work with software and systems engineers to identify technical gaps/needs, and develop new system designs via Systems Engineering processes to meet technical needs for the organization
    • Assist in deriving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and associated Metrics 
    • Continuous analysis of processes for efficiency, effectiveness, and completeness 
    • Utilize SysML and UAF descriptive models to create a well-understood software architecture to engineering team members and stakeholders looking to utilize the modeling and simulation architecture
    • Act as the change agent for process improvements and lead the engineering team through Systems Engineering-V processes

     Basic Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with no experience
    • Active DOD Secret security clearance
    • Experience with Cameo Enterprise Architecture
    • Experience using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML)
    • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and brief ideas to a varied audience 
    • Experience in problem-solving skills and good oral and written communication skills
    • Good organization skills – Ability to coordinate multiple projects 

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) with certification 
    • Understanding of Statement of Work and other contractual documents 
    • Prior experience using the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) profile
    • Understanding of quality assurance, configuration management, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Network configuration, and/or System administration 

    Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
