The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. We’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer/Drafter to join our diverse and talented engineering organization in support of our National Defense as part of the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) Program. Join an exciting and new program as we embark to solve complex and novel engineering challenges.

As a DARC Mechanical Design Drafting Engineer, you will be responsible for

  • The planning, execution, and management of the DARC HW Drawing component.

  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and as-built documentation

  • Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning

  • Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree & 5 years of relevant experience. Or 3 years and a Master’s degree. An additional 4 years of experience required in lieu of a degree.

  • Interim DoD Secret required to start.

  • Strong design drafting experience and be able to work collaboratively with an experienced engineering and program management team to meet our customer’s needs.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, analysis, and GD&T.

  • Ability to perform project engineering type function to small group of engineers (task management, customer interactions, working with program management to address schedules and work scope)

  • Ability to present and articulate complex designs to both internal and external customers

  • Strong skills in effectively learning and applying new concepts and tools

  • Demonstrated ability to get work done in an environment of established systems and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • An active DoD Secret clearance

  • Ability and willingness to travel OCONUS up to 10%

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skill

  • Experience working to conclusion design drawings and specifications

  • Experience/knowledge working design verification and verification reporting

  • Experience designing and modeling mechanical hardware interfaces (such as mounting bracketry).

  • Experience with integrated electrical systems setup, testing and issue resolution

  • Experience integrating instrumentation (mechanical and electrical) including electrical checkout of sensors and data acquisition hardware

  • Demonstrated experience in participating in engineering teams

  • Knowledge of test design and execution

  • Work experience in a government contracting environment

  • Experience authoring in AutoCAD and SolidWorks

  • Experience in USAF/DoD radar systems

  • Experience with USAF Technical Orders

  • Ability to perform tasks in both an isolated and team environments

  • Experience with cable management and cable assembly requirements for RF and fiber optic applications

  • Experience with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps, etc.

Salary Range: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
