We are looking for you to join our team as a Software Architect based out of Colorado Springs, CO. In this position, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be our Software Architect for a Mission Level Modeling & Simulation Internal Research and Development (IRAD) project, solving challenging problems and supporting internal and external initiatives throughout various DoD customers and across NG. Through the use of Mission Level Modeling and Simulation techniques, DevSecOps and Agile practices, we continue to evolve how we deliver impactful and meaningful analysis, data analytics/products and capabilities for the warfighter, our Government customers and also to our internal NG customers.

The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.  The Software Architect will serve as a mentor and guide other teammates to innovate and solve the nation’s hardest modeling and simulation problems across the kill chain.

This position will require onsite work however for this role we are able to offer flexible work arrangements and some remote work will be possible

As the Software Architect on this program, you will

  • Guide software development across a 50 person team spanning a variety of customers and requirements
  • Build out processes to standardized devolvement across the entire project
  • Contribute directly on highly visible, priority projects
  • Own, maintain, clearly communicate and enforce SW Development processes
  • Facilitate coordination across multiple SW teams
  • Support leadership meetings and large team meetings
  • Support creation and maintenance of the software roadmap/schedule of future development work
  • Work closely with CI/CD
  • Guide software architecture design
  • Recognize opportunities and suggest the use of software design patterns

Ultimately, you will support the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission, ensuring everything is synchronized across all software development activities.  

The successful candidate will have broad Software Engineering lifecycle knowledge, with the ability to digest changes and be able to present them at a high level to management or a low level to the team. Candidate is expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment, to be highly self-motivated. The individual is expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, finding unique solutions and working in a very collaborative and fast paced environment that continues to grow in size.

Basic Qualifications for Software Architect:

  • 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline; 7 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 4 years of experience with a PhD
  • Working knowledge of software engineering principles and processes
  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Deep Understanding of C++
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design principles
  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers and customers
  • Experience as SME, Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other engineering leadership role on a modeling and simulation or software development project
  • Experience developing and designing software architectures to meet non-functional requirements
  • Experience implementing design patterns

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Domain expertise in defense, especially Missile Defense, sensors, and satellite systems
  • Work experience and/or exposure to software engineering and modeling and simulation
  • Experience in business capture engagement and proposals
  • Deep understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements
  • Experience in systems development, integration, and test 
  • Experience in architecture and modeling across multiple engineering areas such as Space Sensors, Ground Sensors, Weapons
  • Experience in Wargaming using Modeling and Simulation
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Familiarity and direct experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts
  • Excellent technical writing and team building skills
  • Deep understanding and Experience with AFSIM


Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
