Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer / Sr. Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL

**This position may be filled by either a Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer level or a Sr. Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Air Dominance Division is developing advanced tactical aircraft for the current and future battlespace. The selected candidate is responsible for the creation of a proposal, representing Mission Systems IPT, in coordination with the proposal manager and program manager.

The Mission Systems Project Engineer in this role will be responsible for one or more of the following:

  • Writing sections of a Technical Volume that require EO/IR Sensors, Communications, Mission Management Subsystems or RF Sensors content

  • Author sections of the Technical Volume that detail architecture, maintainability, integration within the Weapon System, and overall operations

  • Developing and integrating sections of the program Integrated Master Plan (IMP) and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)

  • Researching and leveraging past performance to develop and defend the Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for the Cost Volume

  • Coordinate with peer Subsystem Architects within Mission Systems in tech volume development

  • Identify and review relevant past performance data in effort to develop sound BOEs

  • Develop Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), identify dependencies with other IPTs

  • Support development of the Cost Volume

  • Direct customer and supplier interaction to include regular presentations and detailed analysis

The selected candidate must be resourceful and highly motivated to participate in a fast-paced dynamic capture campaign. The selected candidate will contribute to high-visible activities and have opportunities to periodically demonstrate integrated capabilities to sector leadership and high value customers.

Basic Qualifications:

For – Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer (T03):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience OR 0 years’ experience with PhD for T03.

  • Must have interest in new business development.

  • Must have strong technical writing and communication skills and flexibility to evolving program environments.

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.

Basic Qualifications:

For – Sr. Principal Mission Systems Project Engineer (T04):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 7 years of experience OR 4 years’ experience with PhD for T04.

  • Must have interest in new business development.

  • Must have strong technical writing and communication skills and flexibility to evolving program environments.

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Electro-Optic (EO)/Infrared (IR) Sensors design for IRST and Wide Area Search applications

  • Experience with developing and integrating Electro-Optic (EO)/Infrared (IR) Sensor systems

  • Experience with Airborne and Terrestrial Communications Subsystems design

  • Experience with HAIPE/TACLANE and other military COMSEC/CRYPTO equipment, procedures, and protocols

  • Knowledge of advanced network features like IPv6, GRE, IPSEC, IP QOS, VLANs, and multi-cast

  • Knowledge of 5G communication software and hardware development

  • Experience with Mission Computing Architecture, and Mission Data Processing

  • Experience with fusion of onboard and off-board data sources

  • Knowledge of multi-level security network architectures

  • Experience with RF Sensors design for radar and electronic warfare applications

  • Experience with developing and integrating Airborne Radars or Electronic Warfare systems

  • Experience with developing and presenting technical documentation and briefings to the customer and organization leadership

  • Experience in new business development and proposal management, from capture planning to proposal delivery

  • Active in-scope Top Secret clearance with current or previous Restricted Program access


Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
