Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Integration organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

The Lab Operations Group consists of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineering with focus on lab design, engineering, and operation.  Our engineers find professional fulfillment in performing cutting-edge research and being in the forefront of the design process through our partnership with the program office and program leadership.

In this position, you will research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. You will have the opportunity to generate system wiring diagrams, Build-To-Packages and drawings for new and revised electrical harnesses. Support detail drawing release for harnesses and equipment.

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with in-depth knowledge of electromagnetic theory applied to the design and analysis of electrical machines. The candidate should be familiar with different types of electrical and electronic systems, with a focus on permanent magnet and wound-rotor synchronous machines. The candidate will be performing design trade studies, preliminary and detailed electrical design, electrical design assessments, evaluation of signal performance. Experience converting aircraft schematics into lab applicable. Hands-on testing at a system and sub-system level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 Years of experience OR Master's of Science Degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 Years of experience OR PhD in a STEM discipline AND 4 Years of experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance prior to the commencement of employment
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
  • Must have NX or AutoCAD Mechanical experience
  • Must have knowledge of and experience in electrical harness and cable design as well as familiarity with MIL specification, Aerospace standards, and electrical components and cable/wire types

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lab design experience
  • Aircraft electrical experience

Salary Range: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
