Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Sr. Principal Engineer Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Position Summary / Responsibilities

The Melbourne Manned Aircraft Design (MAD) Center of Excellence (CoE) is seeking a Systems Engineer/ Principal Systems Engineer under Systems Engineering to support key program/s in the Aeronautics Systems Sector (NGAS). The selected candidate will perform system engineering activities for all levels of a total system product, including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance. The selected candidate will be the subject matter expert (SME) and lead a small team in performing requirements decomposition and proposal technical author on a major defense acquisition program capture.  This opportunity is located in Melbourne, FL. 

The selected candidate will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.  The selected candidate will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sr. Principal Engineer Systems: 9 years of professional work experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Science, technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), OR 7 years of professional work experience with a Masters Degree in STEM discipline.

  • An active Secret DoD Clearance with an investigation in the past 5 years.

  • Demonstrated success in previous roles as the Lead Systems Engineer or Chief Engineer on major defense acquisition programs

  • Significant experience in providing team leadership for the development and integration of large-scale systems

  • Experience with proposal technical volume writing. 


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in system concept of operations, requirements, and architecture definition for major development programs

  • Broad-based systems engineering experience in development, test, and post-transition activities of large systems on multiple security domains

  • Experience in engineering change board oversight and ensure adherence to technical

  • Experience in performing aircraft functional test

This position reports to Melbourne, FL, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Melbourne, FL, FL, USA.

Salary Range: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
