Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is hiring a Staff level Systems Safety/Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in our Specialty Systems Engineering Department. This position is located in Melbourne, FL. 

The Systems Safety Engineer should have knowledge of systems/software development lifecycle, and/or System/Software Safety responsible for System Safety Engineering and Airworthiness support, to provide the engineering team with application of safety policies and guidance. 

Key Responsibilities: 
•    Applies knowledge, methodologies, and principles of safety engineering as defined in MIL-STD-882E and Software Safety engineering as defined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook
•    Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications, and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems
•    Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards
•    Develops requirements and designs, assess implementations for hazard and causal factors to satisfy critical system safety objectives
•    Develops and evaluates systems, associated support equipment and facilities, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable safety specifications and standards
•    Collaborate with various design teams in the execution of various MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses
•    Applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, design, test, or evaluate military weapons systems
•    Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation for system safety and in support of Airworthiness Certification IAW MIL-HDBK-516
•    Reviews architecture, requirements, and interface artifacts for safety on complex hardware/ software systems
•    Reviews Test Plans and Procedures for safety requirements verification and potential hazardous operations
•    Conducts analysis within a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBE) environment
•    Perform hardware/ software safety (Experience in AGILE development)

Basic Qualifications: 
•    Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 14 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR Master’s degree AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Ph.D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering. 
•    Must have experience in Hardware/Software Systems Integration.
•    Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) that is in-scope (granted or renewed within the last 6 years). 
•    Must be able to attain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs. 

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Current/Active Special Program Access (PAR/SAP)
•    Working knowledge in military/civil system and software safety process (MIL-STD-882E, ARP4671) and related civil assurance processes (DO-178C/DO-254) 
•    Experience with DOORS, JIRA, PYTHON, C++, FISHEYE and Confluence
•    Experience with requirements analysis
•    Working knowledge of flight test engineering, software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering.

Salary Range: $134,700 USD - $202,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
