Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Design Program Quality Engineer for its Rolling Meadows campus. This position collaborates with engineering functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess and determine areas of opportunity for improvements within design quality. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, product evaluation, reliability, and/or research/development as they apply to product or process quality. The ideal candidate will be expected to actively seek opportunities for process improvements; certification in lean and six-sigma methodologies is a plus.

This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management. In addition, the role will require the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic/fast-paced work environment with owning them from inception to completion.  Project Management skills will be utilized to properly scope and execute assigned work and manage project efforts. Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience OR Master's degree and a minimum of 3 year of relevant professional work experience.
  • The ideal candidate is detail oriented, organized, and able to learn challenging concepts quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have experience with ISO 9000 / AS9100 management systems or similar Quality Management systems with an ability to conduct or manage internal audits.
  • Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal oversight and in a multi-discipline team environment
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Aerospace and defense experience
  • Quality (Mission Assurance) background
  • Experience working on DOD contracts.
  • Training in Six Sigma, and CI methodologies, certified Green or Black Belt.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.


Salary Range: $90,600 USD - $136,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
