Mission Systems’ RF Subsystem Design and Test (RFSDT) organization is seeking a Computer Scientist with a strong understanding of C++ software development and either proven experience in hardware modeling and simulation or an interest to tailor their skills in support of a hardware performance focused mission.

Members of the RFSDT section operate as the bridge between Systems Engineering and component level design, decomposing system requirements to the Subsystem level and then down to lowest testable block (circuit card assembly, integrated microwave assembly, etc).  Engineers support multi-level cascade hardware modeling – conducted and radiated RF, DC power budgets, etc – using a variety of commercially and homegrown tools, working trades and resolving design conflicts.  This REQ targets software support of the homegrown tools but with the opportunity to UNDERSTAND the physics of the problems being solved.

The candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal and technical capabilities. He /she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and operate and collaborate in a team environment as required to accomplish the team goals.

This position is located in Baltimore, MD. This position will report to the manager of the Computational Electromagnetics Group within Hardware Engineering. Minimal travel is expected.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Code generation and maintenance for algorithms and graphical user interfaces for an advanced simulation tool.

  • Team interaction with an array of mathematicians, physicists, and engineers, pulling expertise as needed to accomplish short-term and long-term development goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline

  • Minimum 9 years of related engineering or computer science experience (7 years with a Master’s degree)

  • Minimum 5 years developing and testing C++ software in a scientific environment

  • Experience with other software languages, in particular MATLAB, Python, and/or Fortran

  • Ability to develop code capable of running on both Windows and Unix operating systems

  • Minimum 2 years developing software in some parallel programming paradigm (e.g. OpenMP, threading, etc.), and some specific experience in parallel programming for distributed memory architectures (e.g. MPI, OpenCL, etc.)

  • Experience in working with scheduling software on HPC's (e.g. PBS, MOAB, SLURM, etc.)

  • Experience in working with code repositories (e.g. Github, ClearCase, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of developing in an Agile environment and using tools such as Jira, Confluence, etc.

  • Able to work well within a team environment and adapt quickly to change

  • Time management skills and a proven ability to follow through with commitments

  • Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills

  • Active Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline

  • 12 years of experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment

  • Knowledge of linear algebra algorithms (dense vs. sparse, iterative solvers, factorizations, etc.), and some working knowledge of linear algebra packages (e.g. LAPACK, BLAS, Pardiso, etc.)

  • Some familiarity and/or knowledge with executing parallel kernels in a cloud computing environment (e.g. Azure, AWS)

  • Basic understanding of RF subsystem design with emphasis on Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESAs) and/or Receiver Exciter assemblies.

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph


Salary Range: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
