Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, Networked Information Solutions, Strategic Initiatives Operating Unit is currently seeking a Staff AI Systems Engineer to support development of intelligent autonomous systems. The ideal candidate will be based in Baltimore, MD however we will also consider virtual candidates from any US state. As a Staff AI Systems Engineer on this team, you will support a team of engineers to define, develop, decompose, analyze, verify, and validate requirements for AI systems. In this role, you will be supporting program leadership and the customer to define and maintain the technical baseline. Ultimately, you will support the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the mission by ensuring teams are aware of the compliance requirements they will need to meet.

The candidate will perform in a team of cross-discipline engineers and program, and be responsible for (but not limited to) the following tasks;

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, risk and opportunity assessments, and supportability and effectiveness analyses.
  • Support the identification, development and improvement of system operation and maintenance processes/products.
  • Identify and implement new or improved tools and processes to increase team efficiency.
  • Applies knowledge from various disciplines to architect and design systems; includes neuroscience, behavioral science, engineering (systems, electrical, mechanical), computer science (distributed computing/programming), philosophy/phenomenology, physics, and mathematics.
  • Uses emerging verification and validation approaches in addition to the traditional ones to test 1) multi-agent systems employing algorithms that produce ever-changing outcomes related to detection and decision, pattern recognition, and prediction, and 2) systems requirements definition for a new class of systems.
  • Apply systems engineering processes and procedures to develop and maintain systems that meet customer needs; ensuring compliance with applicable directives, policies, and standards/best practices.
  • Create, review, and maintain critical system documentation, such as requirements documents, design documents, interface description documents, test plans, user manuals & procedures and analysis reports.
  • Requirements management, including decomposition, allocation, traceability, certification.  Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solution that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Support Modeling and Simulation, architecture, CONOPS activities on an as needed basis

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Level:

  • Minimum of 14 years of engineering experience with a bachelor’s in STEM field; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.
  • Comfortable with loosely-defined problems, have a demonstrated ability to think creatively, and draw upon a variety of sources for ideas and solutions
  • Experience with Model-based systems engineering
  • Familiarity with AI/ML models and techniques
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications for Principal Level:

  • MS in STEM field
  • Active or recently held US Security Clearance

This position reports to Linthicum, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from McClellan, CA, CA, USA.

Salary Range: $177,000 USD - $278,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
