Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Weapons Integration Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Patuxent River, MD, with occasional travel to the home office in Redondo Beach, CA.

Position Overview:

The Weapons Integration Engineer will work with a variety of test disciplines in an Integrated Test Force (ITF) environment, as well as various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to complete tasks related to design, testing, and sustainment of aircraft weapon systems. This selected candidate will be self-motivated and have an interest in the functional design-integration of weapon systems and flight testing of fighter aircraft.

Functional design-integration requires in-depth technical knowledge of Stores Management System (SMS) / Suspension and Release Equipment (S&RE) - related hardware and software, as well as knowledge of governing standards such as MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, Universal Armament Interface (UAI), etc., for the ability to carry and employ weapons. It also requires broad knowledge of overall aircraft subsystems and how they are used by the pilots and maintainers.

Essential Duties:

•            Perform a variety of duties in the weapons integration area, including, research, data gathering, and data analysis and troubleshooting.

•            Work from engineering specifications such as software requirements packages, Interface Control Documents, Performance Based Specifications, Architecture drawings, and other Engineering Instructions or technical data.

•            Work with a variety of test disciplines in an Integrated Test Force (ITF) environment, as well as various Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to complete tasks related to design, testing, and sustainment of aircraft weapon systems. Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.

•            Communicate across the engineering disciplines and technology areas to integrate capabilities and communicate technical capabilities and analyses with internal stakeholders and external customers (government customers and company leadership).

•            Support test-planning activities leading to F-35 weapons-related ground and flight-test missions.

•            Support missions via real-time control room monitoring, as well as post-flight data analysis/troubleshooting and report generation.

•            Perform Weapon System checkouts and updating procedures for maintenance.

•            Assist in sustainment activities of production aircraft by providing remote or on-site support to deployed squadrons in troubleshooting weapon-system issues.

Basic Qualifications Principal Weapons Engineer (T03): 

•            Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.

•            5 years with a Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

•            A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance that has been granted or renewed within the last 6 years or is currently under continuous evaluation and Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).

Basic Qualifications Sr. Principal Weapons Engineer (T04)

•            Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.

•            9 years engineering experience with Bachelors; 7 years engineering experience with a Masters; 4 years of engineering experience with a PhD and Previous Test and Evaluation knowledge and experience.

•            A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance that has been granted or renewed within the last 6 years or is currently under continuous evaluation and Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).

Preferred Qualifications: 

•            Experience in flight-testing Mission Systems of military aircraft.

•            Development/Integration experience and working knowledge of weapons and payload systems.

•            A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous access to Special Programs.


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
