Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks an RF Electronics Engineering Manager 2 in the Amherst Systems business unit within the Navigation, Targeting, and Survivability division.  This position is located in Buffalo, NY. This is a dual-hat position responsible for both personnel management (~ 50% of time) for a multi-disciplined team of 10 engineers and technical/program responsibilities (~50% of time). This position is located in Buffalo, NY.

The RF Electronics Engineering organization located in Buffalo, NY researches, designs, builds, and tests a variety of electronic components and systems used in the development, test, validation, and training of Electronic Warfare hardware, software, and personnel to ensure the safety and success of the warfighter.

The current organization consist of 10 RF Engineers ranging from entry level through highly experienced staff. In addition to managing the team, the Manager will be required to support and as needed design and implement specialized test equipment used in the testing of Military Radar, Radar Warning Receivers (RWR), and Jamming systems.

The team with manger support will design and implement integrated microwave assemblies or sub-components utilizing transmission line, MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit), and packaged RF devices.

What You'll Get To Do:

The team with manager assistance will be required to review and derive requirements, develop block diagrams, and perform simulation utilizing software tools such as HFSS, GENESYS, and ADS (Advanced Design Systems). The team with manger support will also be required to brass-board the design and make adjustments. Following successful design reviews, the team will formally document the design for production, support procurement/production, and integrate and test the final product.

The manager will be required to communicate with internal customers as well as external customers and suppliers. In addition, he/she must be able to support his/her team with writing test procedures and supporting technicians during the testing of sub components and finished product. He/she must be able to work as part of a multifunctional team working within schedule and budget constraints.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Technical contributor / leader in a program role

  • Functional oversight for a team of RF Engineers

  • Staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; identification and training of employee skills required to successfully execute on programs.

  • Execution of employee performance review processes and performance improvement plans.

  • Recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, performance management and contract maintenance for contractors working in the business area as required.

  • Issue identification/reporting as well as status reporting up the engineering and program management chains.

  • Engage in the preparation of department-related meetings, proposal work statements and operating budgets.

 Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Electronics Engineering or related STEM degree field and a minimum of 8 years of experience in a field including RF and/or analog hardware and systems design or 6 years with an MS Degree.

  • Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively lead teams across multiple engineering disciplines and programs

  • Effective communication and presentation skills

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and able to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance if selected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading in multi-functional team environments

  • Demonstrated capability to make difficult decisions that impact team direction and team performance outcomes

  • Experience in activities related to Electronic Warfare systems development, use, testing, support

  • In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art RF components and test equipment.

  • Ability to proficiently use engineering analysis tools including Matlab, ADS, HFSS and GENESYS.

  • Active U.S. DOD Secret Clearance

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Engineering Leadership, or equivalent.


Salary Range: $134,400 USD - $201,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
