Staff Engineer (Supply Chain Quality)

Position Summary
Technical lead for team of PQE (Procurement Quality Engineers) within the Supply Chain Quality Organization setting & operating to objectives & providing guidance, training and support based on supply chain quality goals, objectives & company policy.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to staff helping them reach their potential
  • Coordinating and collaborating with programs to ensure supplier quality team is engaged with program.
  • Develop initiatives that foster team effectiveness by designing and conducting team development and intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with supply chain organization to develop and maintain strategic quality initiatives for the supply base ensure greater quality success
  • Work on problem solving and failure investigations to drive process control and first time quality
  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations to all stake holders
  • Champion company values, including safety, best practices and continuous improvement
  • Act as primary interface between NG and suppliers for supplier related quality initiatives and improvements

Scope:

Provide leadership of PQEs to accomplish

  • Supplier Quality risk management.
  • Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems.
  • Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance.
  • Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues.
  • Leadership responsibilities for projects engaged in research and/or product development in more than one engineering discipline.
  • Collaborates with program management, engineering, subcontracts/procurement functional management and supplier management teams to ensure that all procurements meet or exceed the requirements of external and internal customers.
  • Manages implementation of Supplier Mission Assurance processes, including, supplier quality requirements development, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard), supplier pre-award capability assessments, source selection evaluations, supplier quality audits and supplier performance assessments.
  • Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list.
  • Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process (Material Review Board).
  • Evaluates supplier-non-conformances, negative performance trends and failures and determines root cause and implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensures that awards and teaming agreements are issued to qualified suppliers through early engagement in the Business Acquisition Process with procurement/subcontracts, business development and program/technical representatives.
  • Utilizes supplier performance data bases and supplier quality management system assessment tools to provide objective evidence of supplier’s capability to perform.
  • Determines the resources required to execute the Supplier MA program and ensure team success, manages the resources and ensures the resources are adequately trained.
  • Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) in support of proposal activity and on an as-needed basis when new procurements are required on existing programs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline
  • BS and 14 years of related professional/military experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry that includes a background in leadership position(s). MS and 12 years of experience. PhD and 9 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project success
  • Some travel 10% - 20% required primarily US domestic
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience in quality or mission assurance position
  • Knowledge of MRP systems
  • Knowledge of configuration management systems and processes

Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues. Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list. Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process. Keeps management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks. Coordinates and oversees Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases. Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and as new procurements are required on existing programs. Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard), development and execution of supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and supplier quality requirements development and flow-downs.


Salary Range: $122,500 USD - $183,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
