Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Architecture Engineer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

What you’ll get to do: 

The Mission Defense Team (MDT) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified system engineer to serve as a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Architecture Engineer, Level 2 or 3.  The role includes applying the MBSE approach for systems engineering within Systems Security Engineering (SSE).

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Support SSE MBSE strategy and implementation in the Weapon System (WS) Architecture Model
  • Utilize knowledge of DOORS requirements management tool
  • Define and execute model integration processes, tools, and techniques
  • Execute DoDAF standards and methods & SysML
  • Implement and enforce model governance at all levels of the architecture
  • Interfacing with the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) team to integrate DOORS with requirements and verification architecture models
  • Coordinate with integrated product teams for establishing content within the WS Architecture Model
  • Implement requirements and verification plan changes in DOORS and drive changes through Change Management (CM) process
  • Participate in a variety of working groups and customer meetings
  • Execute completion Statement of Work requirements, Program Milestone Exit Criteria, and program maturity commitments
  • Self-starters compelled to take action in the workplace without requiring prompting from supervisors
  • Support MDT with other duties as assigned
  • Travel: 10%

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll bring these qualifications:

This position may be filled at a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer level

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Systems Engineer requires a minimum 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 0 years with a Master’s
  • Principal Systems Engineer requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 3 years with a Master in Science or 0 years with a PHD
  • U.S. Citizenship and an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher awarded or reviewed in the last 6 years, ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance and special program access
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience using Cameo Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, SysML or other comparable tools
  • Experience with DoDAF standards and methods, DOORS requirements management, and SysML
  • Minimum 2 years of applying and understanding Systems Security Engineering principles applicable to US Government Defense Programs
  • Minimum 2 years in showing the ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings

These qualifications would be nice to have:

  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • A solid understanding of Program Protection applicable to US Government Defense Programs and applied knowledge in the application of SSE principles across a broad spectrum of security measures (Cybersecurity, Counterfeit Awareness, Anti-Tamper, HW/SW Assurance, OPSEC, etc.) to protect critical program information (CPI)
  • Experience working in an Agile team
  • Requirements Management within MBSE, Functional Block Diagrams, and Specification Trees
  • Minimum 2 years of applying and understanding systems and end item requirements for validation and verification
  • Ability to show self as team player, able to multi-task, able to generate quality work products independently, able to make excellent judgement and show interpersonal skills


Salary Range: $71,100 USD - $106,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
