Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is seeking for a Lead System Engineer on the Command and Launch Design Integration team.  This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force.  This position will be located in Roy, UT.

The qualified candidate will be the main focal point for Command and Launch element teams for integration into the Launch Facility. They will be coordinating and collaborating with diverse engineering design teams to assist in managing the technical baseline to help facilitate the integration of multiple teams’ products to meet segment level requirements.

 This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

What you will get to do:

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the main focal point to coordinate and integrate Command and Launch equipment and requirements applicable to the LF
  • Performing LF MBSE architecture design and analysis and requirements analysis, decomposition, and interface definition
  • Leading structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues that impact multiple teams with varying priorities and needs
  • Integrating design change and maturation requests and by identifying and communicating impacts to other teams for inputs/consideration
  • Implementing program processes and engineering board approval processes for products generated within the LF group
  • Identifying gaps and holes within the design and/or requirements provide a path froward for resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others while filling the gap/hole.
  • Conducting technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to products in accordance with specifications
  • Determining technical solution in accordance with product specifications and recommend actions to representatives for coordinated product solution
  • Developing mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with engineering, project managers, and the customer
  • Facilitate the LF Critical Design Review
  • Manage the tasking for the LF team ensuring work products are delivered on time and adequate support is provide to the various engineering teams for successful integration

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, or Architecture from an accredited university with 9 years of relevant engineering experience or a Master’s Degree and 7 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience leading interdisciplinary design efforts on defense or aerospace programs.
  • U.S. Citizenship and an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher awarded or reviewed in the last 6 years
  • Able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage with internal and external customers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) or other missile design and deployment programs or projects
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Specification author and/or owner experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations. 
  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Experience in leading failure investigations and significant problem solving teams
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project success
  • Experience with Critical Design Reviews

Salary Range: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
