Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Quality Manager to join our team in Charlottesville, Va.

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading a team of 3-5 quality analysts and quality engineers supporting all of our manufacturing process areas (Mechanical Fabrication, Electro-Mechanical Assembly, Wire Harness Circuit Card Assembly and Repair areas).  The Manufacturing Quality Manager is responsible for establishing processes to develop, modify, apply and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols, including advanced technology solution insertion, for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

The Manager collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Also responsible for leading effective root cause/corrective action teams, ensuring that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

The Quality Manager will provide functional leadership and direct program/process contributions. An understanding of, and experience in, inspection measuring equipment, NDT processes, drawing interpretation for both mechanical and electrical, along with IPC/NASA or equivalent workmanship standards is required. Familiarity with PLM, ERP, and MES solutions and 3D modeling is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Functional leadership for manufacturing quality analyst/engineering team at the Charlottesville site
  • Track and Drive Quality initiatives, Compliance Matrixes, FAI's, Corrective Actions, and Process Improvements
  • Manage data collection, analysis, metrics, and presentations
  • Facilitate root case and corrective action investigations
  • Contribute to inspection hours estimates for proposals
  • Develop organizational processes and standards for inspection documentation to ensure successful execution of quality requirements
  • Support internal audits, process observations, and area assessments
  • Lead FMEA efforts
  • Contribute to WCM efforts as applicable
  • Work with other functional Managers and Directors as well as our local DCMA representatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience (9+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree)
  • 3+ years of Quality Assurance work experience
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in process design or work instruction development
  • Working knowledge of corrective action principles (5-Why, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Knowledge of world class manufacturing principles (Focused Improvement, Safety, Cost etc.)
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PPT)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior Inspection supervision or Quality Assurance leadership experience
  • Experience with SAP MES, Siemens PLM and SAP ERP systems
  • Experience with CMM operation and/ or programming
  • Experience with NDT Inspection (VT, MT, PT)
  • Green/Black Belt Six Sigma Certification
  • Current/prior IPC-610, 620, J-STD-001 certification

Salary Range: $87,900 USD - $131,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
