We have an opening for a technical leader to act as our System Thread Lead for Electrical Power Subsystem​ (EPS). You will join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Dulles, VA. You will take ownership of aiding the EPS Team meet subsystem requirements. You should have sound knowledge of EPS physical components and understand the relationship these components have within the system - ensuring proper integration and performance of the subsystem within the system.

You will be requested to help the EPS Team deliver to the Integration and Test Team qualified avionics hardware that meet requirements. This involves helping resolve issues and answer action items, reviewing documents and overseeing EPS Team progress, thus ensuring a sound approach and outcome.

At the systems level, you will be requested to perform systems level tasks to include maintaining the power budget; maintaining system electrical drawings; and implementing the dead bus recovery concept.

To be a strong candidate for this role, you should have Electrical Engineering experience and/or education with experience defining Electrical systems that meet customer requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret space segment level requirements and apply them to the Spacecraft Bus, element level, design and development of a power architecture

  • Review customer and internal compliance documents to identify requirements with subsystem relevance and to gain understanding of their flow down to the Spacecraft Bus power requirements as well as to the subsystem and unit requirements sets. This includes reviewing subsystem and unit specifications.

  • Perform power related trade studies assessing impacts to technical, schedule and cost factors

  • Develop solutions to technical issues associated with the power subsystem

  • Provide technical oversight to ensure the EPS is compliant and completes verification – including review of verification evidence such as subsystem and unit analyses, test data/reports, etc.

  • Oversee the design and development of power avionics components

  • Maintain and update the power budget – monitoring power changes across the subsystems, modeling unit behaviors and mission phases, incorporating EPS power generation and storage updates, performing analyses that show the power capability of the system, and presenting at the monthly Power Control Board.

  • Maintain and System Electrical ICD and Grounding Diagram.

  • Develop, document, and oversee implementation of the dead bus recovery architecture

  • Complete power analyses

  • Cross-Collaborate with multiple development projects and team members to reach common solutions

  • Support Integration and Test of power avionics at a spacecraft level

  • Support Mission Operations during launch of spacecraft

  • Effectively operate within a multi-discipline engineering team

  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required


Basic Qualifications:

  • Systems Engineer 4 - Bachelor’s Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 9+ years of experience, Master’s Degree and 7+ years of experience; or a PhD and 4+ years of experience

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility

  • Experience with a space systems development program

  • Experience presenting to customers or other external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience with electrical interfaces, power budgets, and grounding diagrams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with spacecraft mission operations

  • Experience with spacecraft integration & test (I&T)

  • Knowledge or experience with avionics, including architecture, design, I&T

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
