As a Solutions Architect within the Chief Data Office (CDO) at Northrop Grumman, you will be working on exciting, cutting-edge technology enabling enterprise analytics at Northrop Grumman. We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person who is excited about taking on a variety of engineering challenges as we continue to push our data analytics and engineering capabilities on-premises and to the cloud. You will become an integral team member of Northrop Grumman’s CDO team, and your tasks will include evaluating, developing, implementing, and testing analytics services, as well as working with end users to develop requirements, translating those requirements into design/architecture, and providing internal and end user support.

We will consider fulltime, virtual telecommuting candidates for the role.

The role must be able to work independently under the direction from the Chief Data Architect, have strong communication skills, and be able to interface with key customers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to grasp information quickly and probe when additional information is needed, all while operating in a virtual teaming environment.

Activities include providing organizational support, consultation, and guidance to solutions engineers, data engineers, BI developers, and data scientists; working with the architecture and infrastructure team within the CDO to integrate / develop future looking roadmap regarding on-prem and cloud-hosted technology. Additionally, the role will assist with the development of the strategy, design and architectures for organizational solutions. The candidate will be looked at as a subject matter expert in the analytics domain and will work hand-in-hand with our team and customers helping them architect/design solutions and systems for deployment.

As a Solutions Architect you will be expected to take a lead role in all aspects of the System Development Lifecycle. Working in agile feature delivery teams with Solutions Engineers, Software Developers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and other specialist, to design, build, deliver and support critical customer systems using the latest techniques and technologies. Developing cross discipline skillsets that will enable you to work more efficiently and succeed in taking on complex challenges

Basic Qualifications -

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

• Candidate should be highly motivated with a strong passion for problem solving and innovation and the ability to provide complex solutions with limited direction.

• Candidate should have very good communication and leadership skills.

• Candidate should have experience working with and supporting end users and supporting project/program deployments.

• Experience supporting and administering enterprise or cloud-hosted tools and services.

• Experience with use of ETL Tools, Big Data Tools, Visualization Tools and Data Science languages (R, Python, Scala);

• Experience with technology evaluations and road mapping.

• Familiarity with virtual and physical architecture(s) (Linux and Windows);

• Experience working with network devices, servers, and databases.

• System benchmarking and analysis/identification/resolution of system bottlenecks.

• Able to clearly articulate pros and cons of various technologies and platforms.

• Ability to recognize and implement common data and software patterns and best practices.

• Able to understand, design, and troubleshoot technical architecture

Preferred Qualifications: -

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

• 9 Years with bachelor’s in science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.

• Substantial experience working within IT systems design, deployment and administration, with recent roles in technical or Team Leadership positions.

• Experience supporting and managing high performance, high scalability, and high availability Enterprise applications and teams.

• Experience Designing and building enterprise-scale data models, repositories, and integration systems.

• Ability to work alone or in a team environment.

• Ability to take on a strategic / lead role on an Agile and high performing team.

• Experience of using Agile Delivery methodologies such as Scrum or SAFE.

• Experience of using agile collaboration tooling, such as Jira and Confluence.

• Experiencing performing trade studies and developing, proposing Enterprise approaches to executive stakeholders.

• Experience with Service Strategy, Design, and Operations (Product Management);

• Hands on experience with the deployment, configuration, and support of Analytics services in AWS or Azure.

• Experience with DevOps and site reliability engineering is a plus.

• Demonstrable experience of designing, deploying and administering cloud-based analytics solutions across either Amazon Web Service or Microsoft Azure.

• Hands on Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, Hadoop, SQL Server or other similar data platforms/ analytics tools.

• Hands on Experience with MLOPs tools like Sagemaker, ML Studio, and Jupyter notebooks.

• Certified to Professional level as either an AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Certified Solutions Architect a plus.

• Experience of implementing Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines as part of DevOps deliveries.

• Experience of DevOps working practices, such as Git Branching and release schedules

This position reports to Falls Church, VA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 2 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
