Adaptive Optics Associates – Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications. We are seeking a Master Scheduler and Planning Manager to support


The Master Scheduler and Planning Manager provides direct support to the Master Scheduling function and its internal product value stream customers. The Master Scheduler and Planning Manager will help to plan, issue and control various manufacturing, inspection, and test operations in support of on-time delivery of advanced composite space and aerospace flight hardware. This role will provide program planning and scheduling support to internal and external customers.  This includes gathering of source planning data, logical sequencing of activities, establishing activity durations and loading of resources in an Integrated Master Schedule Network for the purpose of providing status reporting and earned value analysis of work performed against the approved baseline plan.

The Master Scheduler and Planning Manager will report directly to the Operations Manager. This role is a new critical growth position for AOX and will own the development, standardization, coordination and integration of scheduling and production planning processes for multiple value streams across the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) swim lanes. The position provides an exciting technical opportunity in a high-growth, strategically important business for NGC. We are looking for an individual with exceptional people skills. Our ideal candidate has developed teams, can influence and motivate managers and peers to improve processes and products, has excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; must be highly influential in conversation and have a record of collaborative approach with peers/peer organizations. Specifically, the details of the position are the following:

Direct Responsibilities:

  • Manage scheduling and production planner personnel.  

  • Mentor and develop professional talent within the business.

  • Provide schedulers and production planners with day-to-day support, guidance, troubleshooting, and satisfying programmatic requirements

  • Collaborate with engineering, program management, supply chain, manufacturing, quality and test personnel to build, communicate and maintain execution plans that meet internal milestones and customer on-time delivery dates

  • Analyzes lead times, queue times, work-in-process, cycle times, and throughput to meet customer demand most effectively and efficiently

  • Collaborate with Production Control and Manufacturing Engineering teams to identify and resolve ready-work constraints that are impeding critical path flow of operations

  • Perform program and work center schedule risk analyses and simulations using Dynafact Master Scheduling software to determine impacts of constraints, delays and/or re-prioritizations

  • Perform capacity versus demand variance analyses for each major operational work center and communicate constraints to scheduling and operations teams

  • Advise Master Scheduling and/or Management team of the status of work in progress, material availability and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are scheduled and provided as needed

  • Builds scalable and sustainable standard processes to optimize product flow, while incorporating cost, schedule, and resource constraints

  • Develops optimized scheduling tools and aligns ERP systems with an executable plan given various capacity constraints

  • Incorporates complex interdependencies within a system to account for the interaction of multiple cost centers, programs, equipment, and tools

  • Support and maintain daily management visual boards used to identify and mitigate risks of near-term and long-term delivery misses

  • Leads and drives positive change using iterative and agile methodologies

  • Creates new metrics and data visualizations to monitor shop floor performance

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s degree with 3 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience.

  • Experience as a Production Control Planner and/or Master Scheduler in a manufacturing environment required.

  • Strong attention to detail required as this position requires processing large amounts of data across dozens of programs simultaneously

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to ensure changes to plans are fully understood

  • Ability to organize, balance and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly dynamic aerospace manufacturing environment

  • Strong computer skills including MS Office required (particularly Excel)

  • Experience in ERP/MRP software including use of Bills of Materials, Manufacturing Orders and Routings required

  • Ability to brief senior leadership

  • US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s degree with 7 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience.

  • Reasonable knowledge of manufacturing, inventory, production, procurement and quality basics, and engineering flows.

  • Costpoint experience.

  • Experience in MS Project, Dynafact or other scheduling software.

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles including theory of constraints.

  • Experience in Aerospace composite manufacturing preferred.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with improving manufacturing workflow using optimization, modeling, or simulation methods.

Salary Range: $89,800 USD - $134,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
