Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Senior Principal Network Communications role that can insure end to end, data communication performance, system interoperability, and delivery that meets the need in accordance to the performance specifications.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform field integration, troubleshooting and repair of communications and data link systems in military flight test environment, including operations on a flightline, in a hangar, and in command and control centers.
  • Perform/support review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration
  • Responsibility for the testing, maintenance, and integration of Comms and Networks equipment: Radio terminals, software loads, switches, routers, and firewalls required to support ground and flight test operations.
  • Interfacing with engineers and support personnel to troubleshoot any network related issues.
  • Work with system admin, maintainers, and onsite personnel to troubleshoot and repair any internal operational issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge on network routing & switching systems (e.g. switches, routers), network defense systems (e.g. firewall, IDS, IPS), network information & event management systems (e.g. ISE, Splunk, Solarwinds, Nagios), network simulations and load testing (e.g. CML, GNS3, T-bird, iPerf, Ixia), software defined networks (e.g. Cisco ACI) and/or network development life cycle process
  • Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance or DoE equivalent.
  • Ability support up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications (Principal):

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university with 5 or more years of Engineering experience; 3 or more years of experience with Master’s Degree; 1 years of experience with PhD (additional experience can be considered in lieu of degree.)

Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal):

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university with 9 or more years of Engineering experience; 7 or more years of experience with Master’s Degree; 5 or more years of experience with PhD (additional experience can be considered in lieu of degree.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Active In-Scope Top Secret Security Clearance or DoE equivalent.
  • Cisco and Security+ certification.
  • DoD 8570 training and certifications.
  • Experience using test equipment such as protocol analyzers and cable test sets.
  • Experience with computer operating systems (e.g. Windows, Solaris, Linux)
  • Willingness to work after hours, weekends and travel as required.

This position reports to San Diego, CA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 3 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
